Hummingbird is a family business providing care and support in West Berkshire - Newbury, Thatcham and surrounding villages on the Hampshire/Berkshire border (Kingsclere, Baughurst, Highclere, Woolton Hill)
Hummingbird was started and is run by mother and daughter team Nikki and Meghan.
Nikki has over twenty years experience in the care world having worked in a specialist residential home for people with dementia and as a community carer. She started her own successful care business, Nikki's Helping Hand in 2015, before expanding and joining with daughter Meghan to create Hummingbird. Nikki has had a career as a qualified hairdresser with experience in working in the salon in her earlier days, providing hair services in a residential care home and being a mobile hairdresser in the local community.
Meghan has a BSc Adult Nursing degree and has been a registered nurse (RGN) since 2016. She has experience working in different areas of nursing such as respiratory, community nursing, urgent community response and palliative care. Meghan has a number of post graduate, university approved qualifications. One of which is in Palliative Care; she achieved this whilst working for Sue Ryder before and during the pandemic.
Nikki and Meghan want every person who requires a helping hand to feel valued, supported and in control of the care they receive. We believe in continuity and developing trusting relationships with our clients to ensure that no stone is left unturned.
We are more than a care team, we at Hummingbird are an ever expanding family. We welcome any questions you may have and look forward to hearing from you and your family in the near future.
At Hummingbird, we are guided by a set of core values and we strive to uphold them in everything we do.
Hummingbird work together with local multidisciplinary teams such as GP surgeries, District Nurses and Chiropodists to ensure we provide the best care. The NHS and Royal College of Nurses (RCN) follow the 6C's of Care as do we:
We strive to achieve the 6Cs in every episode of care but have an additional value of our own to add:
